Why Join PACE?

About PACE Academy Trust

PACE Academy Trust is a rights-respecting partnership of four schools where we aspire to make every day matter for every child.

PACE was created in 2014 as a two-school trust comprising Chipstead Valley Primary School in Coulsdon and New Valley Primary School (previously called Wattenden Primary) in Purley. The trust was originally called Chipstead Valley Academy Trust and was renamed as PACE Academy Trust in 2017. In 2016 Beecholme Primary School in Mitcham joined the trust, followed by Keston Primary School in Old Coulsdon and Stanford Primary School in Mitcham in 2018. In 2023 Stanford Primary School was permanently closed due to low pupil numbers in the area.

We are a small trust where we strive to create the conditions for every child and adult to thrive. Our schools are proud to have their own identities. What unites us is our love of collaboration and learning together.

In PACE Academy Trust we enjoy and celebrate the differences between each of our primary schools, recognising that they each have wonderful strengths to share and good practice to learn from. We value the diversity that our schools bring to the trust - from their different sizes to their varied locations and contexts. Our school communities are all different from one another and this difference is something we value. We look to find the areas of our work that benefit from collaboration but also leave lots of  decisions for  leaders to make  independently.  We work closely with school leaders  to ensure we get this balance right.

We have first-hand experience of the dilemmas faced when deciding whether to join a school trust  and would welcome a discussion with you to about these and the reasons why small trusts work particularly well.

We have no plans to grow to a size that would compromise our values or ethos; however, we believe that welcoming a small number of schools with genuinely aligned values would be a positive step for children, staff, and our wider community. In any consideration of partnership, shared values remain the most important factor. Differences in location, sector, or size can bring exciting opportunities, new learning and fresh challenges that can be worked through together. By contrast, differences in fundamental values and ethos are far harder to navigate and can hinder the collaborative culture we prioritise.
